We're the folks who worship and serve at the quaint, American Gothic-style white church just a block from the center of Hedgesville village. We care. We care about each other, our community and our world--and our active ministries and missions prove it. How, as we seek to serve in the way Christ served and to love in the way Christ loved, may we serve you?

"We are the church as God intended ...

...a community of believers who come together to follow the teachings of the Bible and spread the message of God's love. Along the way, we teach and share. We sing and laugh. We roll up our sleeves and get involved. And sometimes, we're quietly still in the presence of God."

From Our Pastor

Carl Howard has served as pastor of Hedgesville Presbyterian Church since January 2004.

A Master of Divinity graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., he also has served as a chaplain at the University of Maryland Hospital Center in Baltimore and at the Ingleside at Rock Creek Presbyterian Retirement Center in Washington, D.C.

Before entering the ministry, Pastor Carl was a foreign service officer handling public affairs for the Department of State. He and his wife Beverly served at embassies and consulates overseas for 20 years, 12 of them in Brazil. Earlier, he was a journalist. A native of Texas, he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. Pastor Carl also studied national security issues at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., and Latin American affairs at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru.

The Howards enjoy music, gardening, and being with their two granddaughters, children of daughter Lita and her husband Orlando Gois.

With open doors and open hearts Our congregation covers many generations, among which are people of every stage of faith. We welcome those seeking God and His truths, regardless of questions, baggage, or plain old life experiences.

Whatever you're looking for... you mean something to God. As God's church, you mean something to us. You are always welcome here.

"Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

(Deut. 11:19)

This passage is indicative of the Bible's intention that children be taught by their parents about the things of God. Fathers who take this responsibility seriously not only strengthen their own families but their churches as well. Men who lead their families well are those who will lead their churches well.

Resources for Lent

A worship service is a celebration. It is a time when we come into God’s presence and praise Him. Each service is filled with music and teaching, joy and insight.

We provide many opportunities for people of all ages to experience and celebrate God and a life of faith.

This Easter, we Pray - let us travel this journey with you. Let us all stay awake while our Savior prays in the garden of Gethse- mane. And let us all rejoice on His return.

So we can sing it,

and tell it, and live it.

...Amen
